Summer Project

The summer project provides the opportunity to publish your own paper.

During the first few weeks, Brian and his team will provide you with a

selection of topics from which you can choose. Once you’ve chosen your

topic, you will be given the results to analyze. Using these, you will be

able to write your paper. But don’t worry, along the process the Food

and Brand Lab team will provide you with plenty of help and feedback.

Mentor Matrix

During the first few weeks of the internship, you will be introduced to the entire team. Each of the researchers have ongoing projects of their own they will share with all the interns during a presentation. From the list of ongoing projects, you will be able to choose to participate in approximately five of them. Once you have chosen your projects, you will be working on each of them with mentor. This entails meeting on a regular basis with your mentor, participating in designing studies (field, lab or online), conducting them and helping in writing the final paper.

Field Study

Field studies can be conducted in restaurants, supermarkets and bars, or even at the movies. They usually involve observing or interacting directly with the consumer. They require preparation and can be time-consuming. However, running a field study is a unique experience and a lot of fun! You’ll probably be helping with a few of the team’s field studies during the internship. You may even run one yourself for the project you are working on with your mentor. So put your aprons on and get ready to get involved in a real field study!!

Online Study

Online studies are different. They are usually designed using the program Qualtrics, which will be taught to you during the internship. This user-friendly program allows you to survey consumers without having to go on a field study. Online studies allow you to reach out to consumers more easily. Thus, they can be either used to collect data, or to advertise particular articles published by the lab. Every summer, a Social Media Competition is organized with prizes for the interns creating the most buzz on the Internet.

Fun Activities

Over the summer, Brian and his team will take you on fun adventures to which you can look forward to almost every week. These include out of town lunches and dinners. Mini-golf, paintball and drive-in movies are also on the program. And when enough fun is not enough, ice-cream trips and even wine tasting (for the ones older than 21) will be organized.
